ROCKWELL TRAINING WITH PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE FACILITY

Refocusing For Assault On 2002 National Championships (Tempe, AZ) - - Giant Bicycles' Myles Rockwell, 2000 World and X-Games Downhill Champion, is preparing for the 2002 racing season by attending the highly specialized Athletes Performance training center in Tempe, Arizona.

Founded by trainer Mark Verstegen, Athletes Performance is a world-class training facility for professional and amateur athletes, and has enhanced the careers of many baseball, football, golf and tennis stars through intensive analysis, strength building and motivational performance programs.

Rockwell has had a history of debilitating knee and leg injuries that have at times hindered his performance throughout his career. His left knee is without ACL* or PCL** support, while his right knee has suffered serious damage to the knee cap, among other serious injuries.

"The goal with this program is to achieve more power through my legs, a more balanced body in whole, and of course to win the National Championships and Worlds," states Myles. "While my career up to this point has been self-made, I'm really excited to be working with such professional trainers, and getting hardcore analysis of my strengths and weaknesses. The specialists at Athletes Performance are the best in the world, and I'm feeling the results already!"

The three month program that commenced in January puts Myles in the gym for five days a week, and on the bike for six. He attends the facility in Tempe for one week a month, and continues his training while at his home in Durango, Colorado, and at BMX and Motocross tracks in New Mexico.

Continues Rockwell, "After they tested my strength, flexibility, power and other factors, I was put on an intensive program that concentrates on balance, stomach and back strength and general base building exercises. Soon I'll begin really building leg strength to compensate for my knee damage, and am looking forward to a great season starting in March."

Myles is also under the supervision of cycling coach Paraic McGlynn, a former Irish National cycling coach who works out of the Bicycle Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona. He has also started working with the Spire Institute in Scottsdale for guidance on naturopathic performance enhancement through nutrition.

While in the Phoenix area, Myles will be leading an open mountain bike group ride on February 13th at McDowell Mountain Park in Scottsdale, and will conduct a 4-hour downhill clinic on March 10th at South Mountain. Check www.bicycleranch.com for more information.
