Foraker
Flight Nurse, CALSTAR Helicopter
"I
remember the rescue clearly. When we arrived, people were already
down the embankment with Myles. We climbed down and my partner did
a cervical spinal immobilization, we call that 'packing', and put
him on the board. He was in a lot of pain…his immobilized left leg
in a splint. I started an IV and administered morphine. He was great.
He was wonderful and polite and did everything he could to cooperate.
We put him in the back of the rangers' truck and drove him to where
the helicopter was waiting. Once we got in the helicopter, we stabilized
him and we began to talk. My partner and I enjoyed him very much.
We
landed in the helipad next to San Jose Medical Center and were met
by the trauma team who took X rays and called the orthopedic surgeon.
He thanked us profusely and we said our good byes.
He
was the kind of patient we live for. And his injuries were fixable
which isn't always the case. "
